About Jonathan Rarey

I'm Jonathan Rarey, a software & embedded engineer based in Charlotte, NC. Right now I'm a Software Development Engineer in Test at Massive (the company formerly known as Polygon.io), where I build the test platform for a financial data API with 150+ endpoints.

The career started on the hardware side. I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2014, then spent a decade in the lab: megawatt power supplies at Magna-Power, aerospace test systems and 8-layer MIL-SPEC boards at Bloomy Controls, and embedded firmware for natural gas fuel systems at ANGI Energy Systems, where the simulation platform I architected became patent-pending and was presented at the board level of Vontier. From 2023 to 2025 I also consulted for a stealth startup in California: custom load bank design and fabrication, power electronics testing, and motor controller firmware.

The software thread runs through all of it and eventually took over. I've written C on microcontrollers since 2011 and Python since 2014, went AWS certified in 2023, and picked up Go in 2025. Nights and weekends produce the projects on this site: a trading platform that traded real money in 2025, a free desktop PDF editor, certification-prep web apps, and the client work of Zipoli Media. All together that is 1,180,416 lines of code committed and merged.

I work remote from Charlotte, NC. The formal version is in my resume (PDF), the honest version is in my project write-ups, and the fastest way to reach me is the contact page.
