Software Engineering Experience

The software story runs from microcontrollers to real-time distributed systems. Each layer was learned by shipping something that needed it.

The common thread is range with depth: firmware-level discipline applied to cloud systems, and cloud-scale automation applied back to hardware problems.

How it unfolded

  1. 2011

    First C on bare metal

Self-taught C on Arduino projects and Atmel boards, years before any formal programming class. This was the same era as the first boost converter. Software and hardware were never separate hobbies.

  2. 2014

    Python enters at Magna-Power

Professional C on megawatt-class power supplies, and a first taste of Python writing unit tests for product features. The pattern set here held for a decade: C where the hardware demands it, Python where iteration speed wins.

  3. 2016–2020

    The automation years at Bloomy

LabVIEW, TestStand, VeriStand, and Python driving large-scale automated test systems, plus companywide coding-challenge wins that proved the "hardware guy" label incomplete.

  4. 2020–2022

    Production firmware at Veeder-Root

C/C++ on STM32 with RTOSes for fuel-forecourt products, paired with Python tools for hardware validation and characterization that helped the team modernize legacy systems.

  5. 2023–2025

ANGI: the simulation platform that reached a boardroom

ANGI's hydrogen-station simulation tool: a patent-pending Python platform running thousands of scenario comparisons per customer, with serverless AWS processing. It modeled J2601 refueling protocols to within 1% of specification, enabled a 12x increase in quote throughput, and was addressed at the board level of Vontier, ANGI's parent company.

  6. 2023

    AWS-native, and certified

The HiveTech website factory was built entirely serverless: Lambda, DynamoDB streams, S3, API Gateway, Secrets Manager. AWS became the default platform, backed by the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. EC2, load balancing, Amplify, SQS, SES, and Route53 all entered the toolkit through shipped projects.

  7. 2024

A trading platform: the ML stack

Built a personal reinforcement-learning trading platform that went on to trade real money through Alpaca's API for several months in 2025: transformer-based PPO agents in PyTorch, custom training environments, statistical comparisons of architectures, and a purpose-built GPU training server.

  8. 2025

Go, for when latency is the product

Migrated the trading system's critical path from Python to Go, a 100x throughput improvement that now ingests 100k+ market messages per second per core. Go became the default backend language: VerusPDF's PDF engine, the SEO scanner's API, Techtoniz's narrator Lambda.

  9. 2025–present

    Massive, and the product era

Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Massive, owning quality across 150+ API endpoints for institutional trading clients. Built a test-as-configuration platform with a custom DSL, an authoring UI, and built-in LLM tooling that opened test authoring to the whole engineering organization. Meanwhile shipping full products end-to-end: TypeScript/React frontends, Go backends, Cognito and Stytch auth, CI/CD with code signing. More than a million lines of code committed lifetime.

The other threads

Software is one of three: there's also a decade of electrical engineering experience and a two-phase SEO and website design practice. The project case studies show where all three meet.
